Today we’ll be looking into the WX550L 2 in 1 reciprocating saw and jigsaw from WORX.
An innovative tool, the WORX WX550L combines both a jigsaw and reciprocating saw in one, eliminating the need for additional tools.
A little short for time? No problem. Read our overview below of the WORX WX550L.
- A jigsaw and reciprocating saw in the one model with quick mode changes
- 3,000 SPM and ¾” stroke length
- Inclusive orbital mode for increased cut strength at the flick of a switch
- Innovative motor position providing more accurate cuts and lower misalignments
- Can accept a wide selection of blades for different materials and other brands
The WX550L is part of WORX’s 20V PowerShare platform, which allows you to share batteries with other WORX tools.
If you like to save money with a tool that includes an array of features and removes the need for purchasing extra tools, then read on – this would definitely be for you.
Features & Specifications
There are some impressive features and specifications WORX have included on their WX550L model.
Let’s have a closer look into them for your convenience.
- Weight of 6lbs
- 3,000 SPM
- 3/4 “ stroke length
- Keyless blade change
- Variable speed trigger
- Inclusive orbital action mode
- Jigsaw and reciprocating saw in one
Speed & Stroke Length
Two of the most important features of a reciprocating saw, the WX550L has a no-load motor which reaches a speed of 3,000 SPM. This is for both the reciprocating and jigsaw mode.
The stroke length of the WX550L is ¾.
Whilst it may not be the highest stroke length you would find in a reciprocating saw the beauty of this model is the compatibility with any standard reciprocating saw and t-shank jig saw blade.
This allows you to potentially use any blades you have, regardless of brand.
Personally, I’m a big fan of this feature – another great way to save some space in your workshop and potentially save money.
That sounds like a good combination, doesn’t it?
Keyless Blade Change
If you have any allen or hex keys in storage, it would be best to keep them there.
Keyless blade change.
Today, manufacturers are releasing reciprocating saws with a tool-less blade change, and the WX550L is no exception.
The tool-free blade change feature allows you to easily switch blades – and with the near-limitless blade selection the WX550L can take, this is a feature which is complemented perfectly.
Motor Design & Location
The WX550L has an innovative design, which sees the motor placed on the side of the saw’s body. This allows for the motor and gearing to rotate in a synchronized motion.
The benefits of this design are reflected in the quality of cuts made.
Cuts made with the WX550L will be more efficient, thanks to a continuous stream of power.
Even better, is that the location of the motor will prevent both misalignments and any slippages from taking place.
If you’re like me and want every cut to be of the highest quality, then this is a feature that should definitely have your interest.

What Sets The WX550L Apart From The Competiton?
We’ve had a look at the motor’s location, speed, stroke rate, and keyless blade change, which are features of the WX550L – and next, we’ll look at the features which separate the model from the others in its’ class.
2 in 1 Reciprocating Saw & Jigsaw
As the name of the WX550L states, this is both a reciprocating saw and jigsaw combined in the one tool.
There are a couple of reasons why this is a standout feature – two of those which we have discussed (space and money), but another is the pure convenience the WX550L provides.
The pivoting head of the WX550L will give you the freedom to change between a jigsaw and reciprocating saw in a matter of seconds.
With both modes, both stroke length and motor speed remain the same – so you won’t be losing out when using either form.
Built-In Dust Blower
This is an extremely handy feature which I wish more manufacturers would add into their reciprocating saw models.
When you are actively using the WX550L, there is a port located on the bottom of the tool which will actively remove any dust and debris in front of you.
When working on a project, dust and other debris can find its’ way into anything. It’s something that we accept as part of the trade.
This can cause some difficulties during your work, increasing the time it can take for your project, as well as an increased safety risk that the dust can pose.
The built-in dust blower will continuously blow away any of these risks.
Additionally, this is paired with an extremely functional LED light, which will illuminate any dark work areas.
These are two features which I believe complement each other quite well, and offer a lot for you in the safety department.
Safety is something which is often overlooked by many hobbyists and professionals, so if you don’t want to be another statistic, the WX550L should be a tool on your next to buy list.
Orbital Action Mode
Lastly, we have the orbital action mode.
Located on the top of the WX550L, there is an orange switch which gives you the choice between a linear cut, and the orbital action mode.
Unlike linear cuts, orbital cuts are different – with the blade making circular-type motions with each stroke.
For projects such as demolition work, or when you’re looking to aggressively cut through a piece of wood, this mode will assist.
For perfectionists who need those extremely accurate cuts, orbital action mode would more than likely be something you would stay away from.
In saying this, the ability to choose between both modes in the one (well, two in this instance) saw is something which everyone should have the accessibility to in when working on a project.
Overall, the WX550L is a great addition to the WORX collection that is increasingly expanding.
Even more so, it would be a welcome addition to your tool inventory, catering for any experience levels and usage.
With a jigsaw and reciprocating saw in the one design, plus the ease of switching between two modes in orbital and linear mode, the WX550L has features that your back pocket will be thanking you for.
I would recommend this tool for anyone who is looking to get the most out of their cuts with a blend of precision, power, and versatility.
