5 Best Miter Saw Stands (Which Provide Absolute Stability)

Last Updated on September 17, 2022 by Barry Gray

A miter saw can often prove to be something of an invaluable tool to have at your disposal. However, while people will run out and purchase a fantastic miter saw, one accessory is often overlooked: a miter saw stand.

Now, I know some people reading this will have never even given a second thought to the idea of using a miter saw stand, and I feel you could be missing out. You see, these stands are designed to provide you with absolute stability when working on your project with your miter saw, and surely having stability is not a bad thing?

But that’s not the only reason why I feel these stands have an essential role to play.

Instead, they also make your life substantially easier when you need to work with longer boards. They provide support and allow you to rest those boards as you work on them. A miter saw stand can add more variation to the projects you can work on, which is a huge bonus.

But don’t worry about these stands taking up precious space in your workshop. Most fold down into almost nothing to be put away, so they won’t get under your feet.

Yet even though you may now feel intrigued enough to consider buying a miter saw stand, it does mean you have another issue to contend with; which one do you buy?

miter saw on stand

So, that’s where I come in and help. What you will find below are five of the best miter saw stands on the market right now, and I’m confident you will find at least one that fits in perfectly with your needs.

But I’m not going to stop there.

After you’ve checked out the different stands, I have a few tips and pointers on what to look out for when you plan to go ahead and purchase your own version. By the end, I feel you will find yourself in a better position to then make your decision on which model you want to purchase.

How I Made My List

So, how did I manage to make my list? Well, it all came down to each stand meeting specific criteria.

I wanted to make sure that setting up the stand was not complex. You just want to get on with your project, so the last thing you need is for it to take an eternity to erect the stand. So, simplicity was key.

Also, I wanted to check how stable the base became when erected. I had to ensure it would give a firm foundation for you to work from, or you could quickly run into problems.

There was also how the stand would prove compatible with your miter saw. It had to be easy to link the two together, or else what’s the point of having the stand in the first place?

In addition, I checked out what other people had to say regarding their experience of using the stand. That allowed me to determine what it was like to use the stand regularly and if it would still work as it should some time after purchase.

Ultimately, that led to me creating this list of five different miter saw stands.

Best Overall Miter Saw Stand – DeWalt DWX723 Heavy Duty Miter Saw Stand

  • Weight Capacity: 500lbs
  • Style: Folding

If I had to choose the miter saw stand that I felt was the best on the market, I’d select this model by DeWalt. For me, the key here is that it’s a heavy-duty miter saw stand, so it can cope with a lot of weight and use.

It comes with a weight capacity of 500lbs, and that’s impressive. It also folds up for easy storage, so this impressive stand won’t be guilty of taking up too much space.

I also love the extendable arms on either side of the stand. It means this model provides you with a capacity of 16ft of material, so you can understand the size of the projects you can work on.

But that’s not all the arms can do. With a quick alteration, they can also work as material stops providing you with absolute control over whatever you plan on doing.

I should mention this model is quick and easy to set up. The levers remain easy to access, and everything clicks into place without too many problems. You should also know that this model’s attachment brackets are universal. That means this stand should be capable of working with almost any miter saw on the market.

Overall, this miter saw stand by DeWalt is strong, sturdy, and yet also lightweight on its own. Those arms are fantastic, and they will completely change how you go about working on your projects.

Pros

  • This stand can hold up to 500lbs and yet only weighs 30lbs
  • Those arms make a huge difference
  • Setting up the stand takes next to no time
  • It works with almost any miter saw on the market
  • It folds up when not in use

Cons

  • The stand is quite broad, so it does still take up more space when folded than other models

Best Compact Miter Saw Stand – Evolution Power Tools EVOMS1

  • Weight Capacity: 330lbs
  • Style: Folding

If you wish to own more of a compact miter saw stand, then this model by Evolution Power Tools is one you need to pay attention to.

Even though it’s more compact than most, it does still come with a weight capacity of 330lbs. Now, while that is less than you will see with other stands, I still feel it’s more than adequate for your average DIY’er.

It also comes with extension arms, which means you can work with material up to 9 ½ feet, which is still good enough. These arms also come with material stops, so you can butt it up against the blocks and know nothing is moving.

I do also appreciate the rollers on this model. They work well and offer a smooth way to glide the material over the stand when making your cuts.

Also, don’t worry about the quality of this stand as it’s excellent. It uses ball detents to add strength and support, and overall I feel the setting up of this stand does not really come with too many issues.

Pros

  • It offers a great deal of durability and support
  • The rollers are smooth to use
  • The extension arms offer adequate additional space for larger projects
  • Setting up the stand takes minutes to do
  • It folds down with ease

Cons

  • With a 330lbs weight capacity, it’s more to the lower end of what you should want

Best Miter Saw Stand for Portability – Bosch Portable Gravity-Rise Miter Saw Stand

  • Weight Capacity: 300lbs
  • Style: Wheeled

I know that people worry about portability and how they will be able to move both stand and saw around. Well, that’s why I have added this model by Bosch to my list, as I feel it’s one of the best when it comes to portability.

This stand is slightly heavier than most as it weighs in at 80lbs, but it does offer a weight capacity of 300lbs and makes it easy to move your miter saw around.

This portability is all thanks to the wheels, and it does come with a slightly wider than the average base. That provides greater stability when moving, and it’s certainly something I love about this model.

But don’t fall into the trap of thinking this stand will continue to take up a lot of space. That’s not true because even though the design differs from the norm, it’s still a folding stand. But even better, you can fold the stand and keep the saw in place, so there is no need to keep removing and setting up the saw.

From a bracket perspective, it does work with most miter saws, so I don’t see that as an issue. Overall, this is a sturdy miter saw stand that makes life so much easier when it comes to moving your stand and saw around.

Pros

  • It is one of the most stable stands on the market
  • It’s very easy to move around
  • You can fold it down with the saw still attached
  • It works with most miter saws on the market
  • It folds up very quickly

Cons

  • You need to assemble it first, and it’s not that easy

Best Collapsable Miter Saw Stand – WEN MSA330 Rolling Miter Saw Stand

  • Weight Capacity: 330lbs
  • Style: Folding

I know that some people have real problems with space in their workshop, so having a miter saw stand that collapses into a small area is beneficial. If that sounds like your situation, then this WEN model could catch your attention.

It offers a weight capacity of 330lbs, and that’s adequate for your average use. However, it’s not because of the weight capacity that I’ve included it in my list.

Instead, the other features that come with this stand make it one of the best around.

Take the three-way power cord attached to the stand. That makes it so much easier to plug power tools into the stand, and I think it’s a great addition.

Also, the universal brackets have handles, so carrying things around becomes much easier. This helps when you have a slightly heavier miter saw.

I also find that this stand locks into place quickly, and it feels stable when in use. It’s helped by a dual beam design, which gives you significant confidence in using the stand.

Finally, its extendable arms offer you a greater opportunity to go ahead and work on larger projects. They extend to let you work on boards of up to 10 ½ feet, which is the size I would expect for most stands.

Overall, what you get with this stand is a model that collapses down to a small footprint and yet offers many possibilities regarding how it can be used.

Pros

  • It really does fold down to almost nothing in size
  • It has a strong dual beam design
  • That power cable idea is fantastic
  • It feels very stable when in use
  • The handles on the brackets make a difference

Cons

  • Attaching the brackets can prove difficult at first

Best Folding Miter Saw Stand – Makita WST06 Folding Miter Saw Stand

  • Weight Capacity: 500lbs
  • Style: Folding

My preference when it comes to my miter saw stand is for it to be easy to fold, and that’s why this model by Makita appears on my list.

First, this is a stand that folds down in no time, and then set it up once again also remains easy to do. Also, it’s a heavy-duty stand with a weight capacity of 500lbs, which is up at the top of what you would expect.

This stand is a universal stand, so it should work with most saws and not just Makita-branded versions. I also love it has four individual legs that you can then extend, and these legs are all straightforward to adjust.

This model’s extensions are aluminum, providing you with up to 8ft of added space. This is smaller than most models, but it’s still adequate for several projects.

Overall, I feel this model is one of the easiest to set up, and it works very smoothly indeed.

Pros

  • It has an impressive weight capacity
  • It works with most saws
  • Adjusting the legs for better stability is easy
  • It comes with built-in wheels, so moving it around is straightforward
  • The stand is lightweight but durable

Cons

  • I just wish those extension arms offered more space

What to Look for When Purchasing a Miter Saw Stand

another view miter saw on stand

The five options above are all excellent examples of a miter saw stand, but what are the key things to look out for when purchasing one?

Well, I have a few suggestions regarding the key areas you need to check out.

The Weight Capacity

One of the main things to focus on is the weight capacity of the miter saw stand. Typically, this will vary from between 300lbs up to around 500lbs for a more heavy-duty style stand.

But here’s an important point.

When talking about weight capacity, what’s being referred to here is the combined weight of the material on the stand as well as the miter saw.

So, if your miter saw is heavier than most, then it’s best to push for a stand with a higher weight capacity. If you don’t, then it reduces your options for how to best use the stand.

Stability

Clearly, you need your miter saw stand to be stable, or it becomes pointless. A good stand will not wobble or move around when in use, as that would also become dangerous.

What I suggest is to focus on a model that does come with rubber grips on the feet. That does offer greater stability as it can effectively grip onto surfaces better than just hard metal.

But that’s not all.

If you know you may be using the miter saw stand in areas where it’s not exactly flat, then look for those models that offer either locking support legs or ball detents. They will snap right into place, which undoubtedly adds stability and strength.

Durability

You need your stand to remain durable for an extended period simply because there’s no reason why it cannot cope with being taken onto sites or moved around your workshop.

However, durability is about a whole lot more than that.

You must remember that a miter saw can produce a substantial amount of pressure and force, so the stand needs to be capable of withstanding that. You cannot go for a lightweight stand that appears unsteady. It could potentially collapse, and that’s an accident waiting to happen.

Instead, you must ensure your stand is manufactured from either aluminum or steel. No other material will suffice in this instance.

Versatility

When talking about versatility, I really mean how the miter saw stand can work with different brands of a miter saw. That’s where a universal bracket comes into play, and it’s something I would suggest you focus on when choosing your stand.

But there is a potential issue.

Don’t opt for a compact stand if you have a large miter saw. It becomes too tricky to attach the saw to the stand via the brackets, so I wouldn’t want you to waste your time.

However, if you own a small miter saw, you can go for almost any type of stand out there, and everything should work.

Portability

If you plan on either moving your miter saw around or simply have restricted space, then portability is another key area to look at with your miter saw stand. Basically, you have three main options to choose from.

First, there’s the folding miter saw stand, and this model remains very common and easily accessible. Often, this stand is light and clearly folds down for storage. However, it does mean you need to go through the process of attaching and removing your miter saw, as it cannot remain on there when you pack things away.

Another option is the wheeled stand. Here, you get to keep both stand and saw together, but it does mean this model takes up more space when not in use. Also, this option will be heavier, so remember that point as well.

Finally, you have the shop style, which is much more permanent. If you are a hobbyist or an average DIY’er, I would not suggest even bothering about this model.

I see those points as the key for any individual considering purchasing a miter saw stand. As you see, it doesn’t involve too many different aspects, yet each point is important in its own right.

You should certainly keep the points in mind when looking through the five miter saw stands on my list, and it will make life a whole lot easier.

Overall Conclusion

A miter saw stand can increase the possible projects you can work on with your miter saw, thanks to the increased area size you can operate from. These stands are simple to operate, and how they transform how you use your miter saw is astonishing.

Any of the five stands listed above are excellent in their own right. However, if you feel unsure which one to choose, I suggest running over my tips regarding the key areas to focus on when making your decision.

By the end, I believe you will find yourself in a better position to select one of the five best miter saw stands listed above. After that, just wait to see how it transforms your projects and the way in which you can use your miter saw.
