In-Depth Guide: Which Husqvarna Chainsaw Is The Best For You?
Different people have different needs, which is why chainsaws come in all types and sizes. This guide will help you choose the best Husqvarna chainsaw for your needs. But before that, make sure you know why you need a chainsaw.
Blade Length
The blade length you need depends on what you are going to use the chainsaw for. The blade length also determines what you can cut.
For light duty tasks such as pruning trees or indoor use, a 12 – 14 inch blade would suffice. For medium duty tasks such as yard work or cutting down small trees, go for a 16 – 20 inch chainsaw. Anything above that is for professional use such as cutting trees and firewood.
However, if you need a chainsaw for professional logging or milling, you may need a bar length of 26 inches or more! So, choose your chainsaw accordingly.
As a rule of thumb, the maximum cutting capacity runs a few inches shorter than the blade length (usually 2 inches), so keep that in mind before you purchase. For example, to cut through a log that is 18 inches, you would need a 16 inch bar.
Power/ Engine Size
The engine size is measured in cc (cubic centimeters) and indicates the capacity of the engine. The greater the engine capacity, the more fuel it consumes and the more power it gives.
But that doesn’t mean that you always need to choose a chainsaw with a great engine capacity. For very light tasks, look for an engine that has a cylinder displacement of 30-40 cc. For moderate to heavy tasks, anything above 45 cc to 60 cc should be enough. For professional use, look for engines above 60 cc.
Weight and Ease of Use
Higher end chainsaws do tend to be on the heavier side, but Husqvarna chainsaws usually have a great power to weight ratio. Even so, it is best to make sure that you will be able to handle using the tool for hours on end.
When it comes to ease of use, Husqvarna offers several common features. Here are some things to look out for:
- Anti-vibration feature. Reduces vibrations, allowing you to work for longer without enduring muscle fatigue or developing health conditions.
- Quick start technology to allow you to start the device easily within seconds.
- Bucking spikes and distinct felling marks to help you make more precise cuts.
- Centrifugal air cleaning system to remove chips and debris before it reaches the air filter.
- Automatic oiler to keep your bar and chain lubricated.
- Ergonomic design and handle.
Safety Features
Chainsaws are quite powerful tools. One mistake, and you may suffer serious injuries, which is why purchasing one with safety features is crucial. Husqvarna is great when it comes to safety features! Here are some of them you should look out for:
- Inertia activated chain brake system to help you in the event of a kickback.
- Throttle lock trigger.
Almost all of Husqvarna’s new range of chainsaws feature an X-torq engine which uses up less fuel and emits less carbon emissions. I hope you enjoyed this informational guide! You really cannot go wrong with a Husqvarna chainsaw.
The 450, 455, and 460 are all the same exact saw, with only about 10cc difference between the 50 and 60. Also, all 5 of these saws are some of the worst saws husqvarna has ever built, when looking from an arborist point of view. Perfectly fine for a little firewood cutting every now and again, but when it comes to being run hard for 8 to 10 hours every day, buy an xp. Any husqvarna xp is worth the extra money. Or if you want to get more mileage with less maintenance, buy a stihl. Stihl has loads of bottom end torque also, but is heavier than comparable husqvarna xp. The xp will be lighter, turn at higher rpm, but need worked on more often.
