The Best DeWalt Miter Saw You Can Buy in 2020

If you’re familiar with your power tools, there’s a certain brand you may be aware of – the black and yellow of DeWalt.

Want to read the entire article, but a bit short on time? No worries, we have you covered. I’ve created a quick overview of the best DeWalt miter saws below for your convenience.

Since their inception into the industry in 1924, DeWalt have manufactured millions of models, spanning a range of power tools for both industrial and personal use. It’s no surprise to see that they’re among the top brands when it comes to tools – and there’s no exception with their miter saw range.

Miter Saws are used to make accurate cuts at certain angles, with cross-cuts, bevel cuts and angled cuts the most common form of cuts used by miter saws. As DeWalt is one of the best names within the industry that create quality products, we’ll be looking entirely at three of the best miter saws they have on the market – and why they’d be perfect for your use.

My Recommendations

I’ve put together three of the best DeWalt miter saws that you can find on-site or in your workshop, including two corded models, and one cordless version.

To make it easier for you, it’s best to decide upon your use of a miter saw, and whether a corded or cordless version is better for you – based upon your day to day use and the output you’re looking for.

Feel free to ask any questions you have about these three DeWalt miter saws, leaving these in the comments at the bottom of the article below, and I’d be more than happy to assist you.

DeWalt DWS780 Corded Miter Saw

We’ll start off our DeWalt miter saw review with what could be the best of their miter saw range – the DWS780.

This is a miter saw that’s perfect for both the day to day user contractor moving from job sites, and the amateur DIYer who is just looking to start their woodworking journey. This is a sliding miter saw that allows you to work with larger pieces, as well as a transparent blade guard, allowing clear visibility during guard without compromising your safety.

  • 5 amp motor with max RPM speed of 3,800
  • Dust collection system will catch up to 75% of dust created through cuts, promoting both safety and cleanliness for users
  • Prevent damage to the power cord thanks to its’ design leading through the back of the model
  • Fixed accuracy and swift adjustments with the cam lock on the stainless steel miter dent plate
  • Up to 2 x 16 lumber at 90° and 2 x 12 at 45° with the specially-designed back fence

What’s In The Box?

  • 1 x DeWalt DWS780 miter saw
  • 1 x Blade wrench
  • 1 x Dustbag
  • 1 x Vertical material clamp
  • 1 x 12″ Carbide blade

My Favorite Feature: Cutting Capacity

  • One of the largest cutting capacities in both the 12” and overall miter saw class, allowing for larger stocks to be used

With a 12” model, your miter saw is expected to have a larger cutting capacity than that of other models – however, it’s this area that DeWalt have not only impressed upon, but also heavily exceeded expectations.

You’ll have up to 16” of space to cut using the specialized setup, with a 90° cross-cut capacity of 14”. The DWS780 features a miter ability of 60° to the right, and 60° to the left, giving you the promise to cut pieces sized at 4 x 8 in both width and height.

When you’re looking to make bevel cuts with this miter saw, you can simply move the tall sliding fence, which also supports crown molding (up to 7-½” when nested, and molding up to 6-¾”)

The DWS780 definitely holds an impressive cutting capacity, and is perfect for small to medium and even larger pieces up to 16”.

What are your thoughts on the cutting capacity of this model, it’s quite impressive, isn’t it?

DeWalt DWS715 Corded Miter Saw

Out of the three miter saws we’re looking into within this article, the DWS715 features a stripped-down design when compared to the DWS780 model, and also the cordless DCS361B miter saw.

However, this isn’t to say that this is a negative aspect for the DWS715 – as it’s incredibly light for a miter saw, perfect for portability whilst remaining within the corded class – and that’s one of the main areas of focus I’ll be delving into.

Size and design aside, what else does the DWS715 include in regards to both specifications and features? I’ve listed some of these below.

  • Included a 15 amp motor that can attain an RPM speed of 4,000
  • Base molding supports 6-½” up to the fence in a vertical position
  • Miter detent plate contains 11 positive stops
  • Make precise cuts with the thin kerf blade, saving material
  • Bevel ability of 0° – 48° left, and 0°- 3° right

What’s In The Box?

  • 1 x DeWalt DWS715 miter saw
  • 1 x 12″ Carbide tipped blade
  • 1 x Wrench
  • 1 x Dustbag
  • 1 x Vertical clamp

My Favorite Feature: Portability & Compact Design

  • Perfect for almost all uses across all experience levels, thanks to a total weight of 47lbs and an overall, user-friendly design.

With the three different models we’re looking at from DeWalt, I’ve established that this model contains the core features you’ll find in a miter saw, without the added bells and whistles that can be found on other models.

Thanks to this, it’s an incredibly light miter saw – weighing in at a total of 47 lbs. This makes it perfect for those on the go, and for the general hobbyist who is looking to increase their inventory with the limited space they’d have in their workshop.

It’s quite a good model for those looking to make inroads into their woodworking career – and is favorite for many beginners with its user-friendly design. If you’re looking for a lightweight miter saw within the corded class that won’t break the budget – the DWS715 should be on top of your list.

DeWalt DCS361B Cordless Miter Saw

Rounding off our list today, is the cordless DCS361B miter saw. This model is one of eight within DeWalt’s cordless range, and is also one of the premier cordless varieties that can be found across the entire class.

One of the reasons as to why this is such a popular model throughout the industry, is due to the 20V Max battery sharing platform.
If you’re not familiar with this platform, you’re able to use batteries with other power tools DeWalt have within their catalogue – as long as they are included within the 20V max battery sharing platform.

This not only saves you money, but also gives you more versatility within your own range, so you can use many different types of power tools, with only the one battery you’re sharing between them. Pretty neat, don’t you think?

Yet this isn’t the only area in which DeWalt impresses with their cordless model, and the alternative specs and features are listed below.

  • Lightweight design, with a total weight of 30lbs – perfect for contractors and those on the go
  • 3,750 RPM speed, no-load motor
  • 45° bevel cut cap – 2×8, 45° miter cut cap of 5-½”, 90° cross-cut cap of 8”
  • Durable stainless steel detent plate with eleven positive stops
  • Accurate miter angles with the cam lock miter handle for quick adjustments – extremely price miter system

What’s In The Box?

  • 1 x DeWalt DCS361B cordless miter saw
  • 1 x Carbide blade
  • 1 x Blade wrench
  • 1 x Material clamp

My Favorite Feature: Cross-Cut Positioning System

  • LED light shines a white line of sight to assist in cutting pieces, promoting accuracy for uses particularly within dim settings

A feature found in many DeWalt models, the cross-cut positioning system allows for a clearer line of sight, thanks to an LED light which provides an assisted line of sight when cutting.

As you may be aware – a white LED light isn’t the brightest when the sun is shining upon your work, so this feature is extremely handy in settings where light is limited, or inside your workshop. In saying this, the LED light can be adjusted to fit a color that is more friendly to an outdoor setting.

If you’re worried about the light reducing your battery power – don’t stress too much, as DeWalt have this covered. Their range of 20V Max batteries are built for lasting hours upon use, and this light won’t impact upon your overall performance – instead of increasing what you can do, making your cuts more precise than they’ve been before.

If this is your first time using the XPS crosscut positioning system, let our readers know what you think of this by leaving your thoughts in the comments at the bottom of this article.

The Round Up

After reading through three of these models within this article, you’ve probably found a model from DeWalt that is perfect for you – whether it’s the bare bones but extremely user-friendly version of the DWS715, or the powerful DWS780 that tops the class in many areas.

If you have DeWalt tools already in your arsenal, and many of those being the cordless, 20V class, this should also be a good bargaining chip for yourself with the battery sharing platform – is designed for the contractor with a powerful, but compact and rugged design.

All in all, the best model should be tailored for what the jobs you’re looking at tackling, as well as the use of your miter saw.

The DWS780 wins the race for gold in this three-model race, and if you’re unsure as to why – have a read through at many satisfied customer reviews, as well as the impressive features it contains.

Whichever model you end up choosing, you’ll have a durable and reliable miter saw, thanks to the powerful DeWalt brand that produces quality power tools on a consistent basis. You won’t go wrong in choosing any of the three we’ve reviewed today.

That’s enough from me – what about you? Is there a particular model you prefer?

Let me know in the comments below, I’m happy to read your thoughts and answer any questions you may have.
