The Tool Square started with one simple goal.

To share my experience with fellow woodworkers.

Simple right?

Who’s behind The Tool Square?

Barry Gray

Hi, I’m Barry, and welcome to The Tool Square!

So, you may wonder why you should read everything on this site and listen to what I have to say, so let me tell you.

I’ve loved woodworking and bringing things back to life for more years than I care to remember. However, I do know where it all started, and it was thanks to my grandfather.

My grandfather was old school. Sure, he had some power tools, but his pride and joy was a wooden cabinet filled with various implements. Different chisels, planes, hacksaws, the works.

I loved how these humble tools could turn some simple wood into another object with a specific purpose, and it stayed with me.

I admit I still have some of those tools in my own tool shed, but I’ve moved with the times.

That childhood memory has led to my interest in tools that does stay with me to this day, and I think that personal experience counts for something.

What you get here at The Tool Square is an honest opinion from someone just like you, with a keen interest in tools and what they can produce. I know what it’s like to not have the right tool for a specific job and have no idea which tool to purchase to solve the problem! If I think something is poor about a tool, I’ll tell you, and I have no problem doing so.

But anyway, here’s a bit more about me.

What was my first power tool?

It was an old Black & Decker jigsaw, complete with a rusty blade. It was at least 10 years old by the time I had it handed to me, but boy, that jigsaw opened up a world of possibilities!

What’s my favorite tool?

I think this is like asking who your favorite child. However, if I had to be pushed into an answer, I would say the DeWalt 18V Combi drill. I just feel it performs to a consistently high level.

Why will TheToolSquare.com be helpful to you?

I will put all of my 20+ years of experience working with wood and power tools to good use to help you out. My aim is not only to point you in the direction of some excellent tools but also to explain what you should be looking for when buying one in the first place.

I’ve had years of experience, including mishaps, and that’s been the best teacher I’ve ever had. Also, I’ve bought a few major, and costly duds along the way, which is why I want to stop you from making those same mistakes.

I hope my passion for tools comes across loud and clear in everything you read here on The Tool Square. Also, don’t forget to get in touch if you have any questions or want to see something covered here on the website.
